As part of a museum’s mission to preserve and educate, collection photography has always served a vital role in disseminating information to the masses. The necessity for which became most apparent in the early days of the pandemic when museums were forced to close their doors; leaving our facsimiles as the only means for the public to view the collection. Reopening amidst the summer of 2020’s collective demands for justice and equality, the Institution made a vow to be a more equitable environment for staff and guests alike. These digital collages are a critique of the Institution’s current inequitable practices. Versions of my facsimiles that were published without credit served as the source material for these works. I made yet another facsimile of the physically printed materials to reclaim my labor and present it in a way that is unequivocally mine.
